Nominations for 2025 are open. Completed nomination dossiers must be received by May 1, 2025 to be considered.
The Faculty of Dentistry Alumni Awards:Â
- Recognize the important professional and community contributions that our alumni are making to the world and society.
- Celebrate and honour alumni who have consistently demonstrated outstanding achievements.
- Highlight the Â鶹Íø Faculty of Dentistry and the accomplishments of its alumni.
- Connect the alumni community, the university community, and the wider community.
General (selection criteria)
The Faculty of Dentistry Alumni Awards recognize graduates, students, faculty, and friends of the Faculty of Dentistry for excellence, leadership, and innovation in their achievements and contributions to the social, cultural, and economic well-being of society, which positively reflect on the Faculty of Dentistry. Alumni will be recognized for their exemplary contributions in all areas worthy of recognition.
Outstanding/significant nominees will be characterized by qualities including, but not limited to:
- Prominence and acclaim in their chosen field
- A consistent and comprehensive record of excellence and achievement beyond the norm
- Persistent effort and courage in the face of adversity
- Innovative and effective approaches to challenging problems
- An ongoing and positive effect on their field and/or other people
Outstanding Alumni Award
This award is presented, when merited, to graduates of Â鶹Íø’s Faculty of Dentistry who have made special and/or distinctive contributions to their community, profession, society at large, or the Faculty of Dentistry. Special consideration will be given to candidates who have advanced the art and science of dentistry or dental hygiene through high-quality dental service, research, education, or volunteerism; served the organized profession with distinction; or who have made significant contributions that have extended the frontiers of dentistry or dental hygiene. Nominees must either be in good standing with their regulatory authority or retired in good standing.
Two awards are normally presented per calendar year – one to a dentistry alumnus and one to a dental hygiene alumnus. The Dentistry Alumni Committee (DAC) reserves the right to present additional awards, or to refrain from presenting the award, in a given year.
Early Career Alumni Award
This award is presented, when merited, to an alumnus within 10 years of receiving a DDS, DDH, BDH, or graduate degree whose excellent accomplishments and leadership – either in their professional career or through community service – provide inspiration to students and other early career alumni.
Two awards are normally presented per calendar year – one to a dentistry alumnus and one to a dental hygiene alumnus. The DAC reserves the right to present additional awards, or to refrain from presenting the award, in a given year.
Friend of Dal Dentistry Alumni Award
This award is presented, when merited, to an individual, company, organization, group, or foundation that has had a positive and substantial impact on the Faculty of Dentistry through volunteerism, promotion, support, financial assistance, collaboration, and/or participation.
Two awards are normally presented per calendar year. The (DAC) reserves the right to present additional awards, or to refrain from presenting the award, in a given year.
Nominations for this award may come from any source except self-nominations. To promote consistency and fairness, nomination dossiers must be presented in the following order:
- A completed Nomination Form
- A letter from the primary nominator, illustrating the candidate’s suitability for this award (reason for nomination; highlight achievements, service, research, education, volunteerism, etc.) (max. 2 pages)
- Minimum of 1 letter of support (max. 1 page each)
- Nominee's curriculum vitae or other documentation to support the nomination
Successful candidates for this award will be selected by the DAC Awards Subcommittee, approved by the dean of the Faculty of Dentistry/director of the School of Dental Hygiene, and ratified by the Dentistry Alumni Committee. While encouraged, it is not a requirement for recipients of this award to attend the presentation ceremony.
